My name is Beau and I am a young golden retriever. I am a big boy, but I’m gentle and loving to all. I was born in Pennsylvania and spent the first two years of my life in Ohio. I am new to Northern Virginia, but I have come to love all the hiking trails and of course, swimming in the Potomac River. There are many wonderful benefits of Animal-Assisted Therapy, which is why I decided to become a therapy dog. Not only do animals help provide comfort and reduce loneliness, but according to research conducted by UCLA, petting animals releases an automatic relaxation response which helps lower anxiety and boost overall mood.
While living in Ohio, I took several obedience courses with my humans and my younger brother. I am certified and insured as a therapy dog through The Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs, Inc. I enjoy meeting new people and love using my skills to help others feel at ease. Since becoming certified, I have worked with patients in nursing homes, hospitals, and in the therapy office here at The Wellness Connection.
During our sessions, you can expect me to be extremely excited for the first few minutes that we meet. I may let out a squeal or two, but that is just because I am so happy to see you. Within a few minutes of us becoming acquainted, I will settle right down. You will have the choice of sitting on the couch or sitting beside me on a mat. I may ask you to toss me my ball, but if you don’t want to play, that’s fine too. I am a great listener, so during our sessions, you will be doing the majority of the talking with my co-therapist and owner, Carissa Francis. I hope to meet you soon!
