Laura Sherwood, Hypnotherapist
Laura is a Certified Hypnotherapist and a member of the American Hypnosis Association. Before becoming a hypnotherapist, she spent 10 years as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in Hawaii working with adolescents and adults struggling with addiction. Throughout her own personal journey with recovery, Laura identified behaviors that were blocking her success, leading her to seek alternative healing methods. Laura brings a variety of tools to her sessions to support the therapeutic process including mindfulness, meditation, energy work, and her coined term “hypnodance”. She enjoys helping her clients uncover limiting beliefs and self-sabotaging behaviors that are blocking them from reaching their goals and experiencing a joy-filled life.
A graduate of honors from the University of Hawaii, Laura earned a Bachelor’s in Communication and Gender Studies. She holds a Master’s in Human Development from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbra and a second Master’s in Organizational Development from Antioch University in Seattle. Laura is currently a doctoral candidate at Fielding Graduate University, where she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Human Development.
In addition to being a Certified Hypnotherapist, Laura is a Certified Specialist in the areas of Weight Loss, Healing the Inner Child, ADHD, Past Life Regression, Hypnosis, and the Transgender Client. A Therapeutic Imagery Master, she received her training and certifications from the Hypnosis Motivational Institute (HMI) in California. Laura is also a Certified Therapeutic Art and Happiness Coach, an Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) practitioner, and a Level 2 Reiki Master. In 2018, she spent three months in India where she completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. Most recently she has facilitated zoom groups utilizing therapeutic art and somatic modalities with clients experiencing anxiety and isolation.
Laura spent most of her life in Hawaii where she raised her two kids while working as a counselor and running a small photography studio. She’s often asked why would you ever move from Hawaii?
She enjoys exploring the DMV area and loves to get lost in nature with her camera where she finds stillness in the moment.
